Step 1: Unboxing the Brother MFC J485DW printer

  • Unpack the Brother MFC J485DW printer.
  • Remove all the components from the box.
  • Remove the protective cover and tapes from the printer.
  • Place the printer closer to the power outlet to access it easily.

Step 2: Load paper

  • Pull out the paper tray completely from the Brother MFC J485DW printer.
  • Open the output tray cover.
  • Align the paper edge guides to make the paper fit the tray.
  • Place the paper on the tray by keeping the printable side facing down.
  • Now slide the paper edge guides against the paper.
  • Make sure not to damage the paper edges.
  • Push the paper tray completely inside the printer.
  • Pull out and unfold the paper support flap so that the paper does not fall.

Step 3: Turn on the Brother MFC J485DW printer

  • Connect the power cable to the printer.
  • Tilt the printer control panel and press the Power button.
  • Make sure that the LED light on the printer screen turns on.
  • Choose your Language, Country, etc.
  • Once configured, move on to install the ink cartridges.

Step 4: Installing the ink cartridges

  • Open the ink tank cover on the right side of the Brother MFC J485DW printer.
  • Remove the ink cartridges from the protective cover.
  • Remove all the protective tapes and materials from the ink cartridge.
  • Insert the cartridge into its slot and press it until it clicks in its place.
  • Make sure that you insert the cartridge according to the color indications.

  • Once installed, close the ink tank cover.

  • Turn on the Wi-Fi router.
  • Make sure that the printer is placed within the Wi-Fi network range.
  • Now press the Wi-Fi button or Down arrow button on the printer control panel.
  • Select Setup Wizard from the list and press OK.
  • Press OK again to enable WLAN.
  • Your Brother MFC J485DW printer will search for the available Wi-Fi networks.
  • Select your Wi-Fi router name and press OK.
  • Provide the required SSID details and press OK.
  • Press 1 to connect the device to the router.
  • Wait till the Connected message appears on the screen.

Step 6: Installation of software

  • Make sure that you have connected your Windows computer to the same Wi-Fi network to which the Brother MFC J485DW printer is connected.
  • Insert the Brother driver CD into your computer’s CD drive to install the software.
  • You can also get the driver from the official Brother website.
  • Make sure that you download the software that supports your OS.
  • Once downloaded, the User Account Control screen appears on your screen.
  • Click Yes to continue the installation.
  • When the Connection Type screen appears, choose Wireless Network Connection.
